Hey there, parents! Summer’s just around the corner. I know, didn’t UKC just open yesterday??? It sure feels like it. That means it’s time to start thinking about summer activities! For those of us with little ones, it’s a mix of joy, sun, and, let’s face it, a dash of chaos. But fear not! With a bit of planning, we can make this summer a blast for both parents and kiddos alike. Here is the lowdown:
Plan Summer Activities and Schedules
- Craft a Summer Calendar: Sit down with the family and map out the summer. Think camps, play dates, and yes, some well-deserved ‘me’ time for you.
- Local Fun: Check out what’s happening in Savannah. Summer camps, workshops, or even a local show can be the highlight of your child’s summer.

- Family Time is Golden: Make it a point to have some quality family time. Whether it’s a picnic in the park or a movie night at home, these moments are priceless.
Alternative Daycare Options:
- Summer Camps and Programs: Check out the link above for some local Savannah Summer camps! Camp, when feasible, is a great option for summer activities. And we’re lucky here in Savannah, we have some good ones!
- Childcare Services: Consider hiring a babysitter or enrolling your child in a daycare center for a few hours a day to ensure they are engaged and well-cared for while you’re at work.
- Family and Friends: Reach out to family members, friends, or other parents to arrange play dates or childcare swaps to help each other out during the summer months. If your kidz are lucky enough to still have grandparents around, maybe they could take them for a fun trip for a few days.
Prioritize Safety Precautions and Sun Protection while planning Summer Activities
- Sun Smarts: Talk to your kids about the sun. Sunscreen, hats, and shades are your best friends when you’re out and about. (We wrote a whole blog about sun safety in Savannah before. Check it out!)
- Water, Water Everywhere: If you’re hitting the pool or beach, make sure your little swimmer has the right gear and is always within arm’s reach.
- Stay Cool and Hydrated: Keep the water flowing! Hydration is key, especially on those scorching summer days. (And yes, we wrote a blog about keeping kids hydrated, too!)
Balance Work and Play in Summer Activities in Savannah
- Bring Your Kid to Work Day: Some workplaces offer “Bring Your Kid to Work” days or have family-friendly policies that allow parents to bring their children to the office occasionally. It can be a fun and educational experience for the kids and a great way to balance work and family time. What a great idea for summer activities, if they’re available!
- Flexible Work Mojo: If your job allows, see if you can swing some flexible hours or work-from-home days to juggle work and family time.
- Home Office Days: Telecommuting can be a lifesaver. You get to be there for your kids while still keeping up with work commitments.
- It Takes a Village: Don’t be shy to ask for help. Grandparents, neighbors, or a trusted sitter can be a huge help in keeping the kiddos entertained and safe.
If you haven’t yet, you might see if your child needs some allergy testing. We’re seeing a lot of problems with allergies this year.
And as always, don’t forget UKC when you and your kidz have a little too much fun! Accidents happen, and we’re here to help your kidz get fixed up so they can get back to having a great summer. Come by from 9am to 8pm on weekdays, 9-4pm on weekends (don’t forget our lunch hour every day at 12:30) and we’ll see you quickly and get your kid back on their way.
Summer activities with kidz here in Savannah can be a roller coaster of fun and frenzy. But with some planning, a sprinkle of sun smarts, and a dash of flexibility, you can make it a summer to remember. So, gear up, parents, and get ready to make some unforgettable summer memories with your little ones!
